Description

Picked up a pair of Spendor D7s to swap back and forth with Magicos.

9/10/2021 - Sold the Spendors.  They are fantastic speakers, but not quite at the level of the Magicos. The A1s are better suited for my room.

New additions:  Accuphase C-37 Phono preamp, Gold Note DS-10 (Roon endpoint), Leak Transport, and iFi Power station.

10/08/2021 - Picked up a Ortofon Cadenza Bronze.  Wowee Zowee.

10/18/21 - Added a KEF KC62 microsub.  Also got the itch to rotate my room 90 degrees, and had to change around racks/furniture (mainly because I didn't want to cover a floor vent, ha).  First reflection points are now treated more efficiently.

12/9/2021 - Sold the Gold Note DS-10 and picked up a HiFiRose RS150B.  I'd been dreaming since the first announcement of getting one of these.  Love that beautiful screen.  After a good 50+ hours or run-in, the performance started to match the price.  Great sounding DAC/streamer.

Also did a little rack/console switch up again.  This time I didn't have room for the CD transport with the main gear so it's on the other side of the room next to my computer.  Picked up a little S.M.S.L DAC to go with that, running balanced cables around the perimeter of the room.  The SMSL is a great DAC too, especially for the price.  IT's only duties are for CD playback.

4/09/2022:  Sold the Magicos and have put in a pair of Tannoy Autograph minis (these were previously in my office system).  These are tiny speakers, but I have a smallish room.  They match well with the Accuphsase.  I'll miss the Magico A1s but time for some new flavors.  Also found a new console I liked.

4/13/2022:  Tannoy Eaton in the system now.  All the sweetness of the Autograph Mini but bigger & better!  Quite the lookers too!

06/08/2022  Harbeth C7ES-3XD in for audition.

So far I prefer the Harbeths.  Their midrange is just tonally perfect to my ears. Maybe the best midrange I've heard.  The Tannoys play deeper and image slightly better. Honesty,  I'd be extremely happy living with either one but I sold the Tannoys already, so Harbeth it is for now.

Am very interested to hear how the Harbeth stack up against the Tannoys.  I have been looking for some new stand mounts and I have been considering both of those speakers.  Would be great to hear your thoughts.  Thanks.

@robelvick, Glad to hear you’re enjoying the beautiful synergy between Tannoy and Accuphase. I was on a merry go round for a while until I stumbled upon aforementioned brands. Are you set on Eatons? If not, then I honestly believe either Turnberry or Kensington would be a ideal match for E-470 and your room. Any one of them would be a ‘next level’ and end game upgrade until of course you get a bigger room :-)
In any case, Congratulations on Tannoy’s.

Thanks for kind words.  The alpine lake is actually a tapestry.  Just wanted something with a little more pizazz, rather than looking at blinds.

I just sold the Magicos and haven't had Spendors for quite some time, so I can't really accurately compare the two by memory.  The Magicos were definitely more refined sounding and imaged better than the Spendors, that much I do know.  Spendors play all genres of music well and were very unfussy with room placement.

But now I'm on a Tannoy kick.  Started with Autograph Minis and now on to the Eatons.  Don't think I can move up any further until I have a larger listening space. @laltik system is what got me interested in the Tannoy/Accuphase combo initially.  All I can say is WOW.  Such a great match.

Wow I keep returning to this system to see the next upgrade and continue to be impressed.  Audio gear is all top notch and drool worthy and would love to hear it, bet it sounds outstanding and as mentioned below your taste in music alone makes me want to invite myself over, BUT my big question is what's the photo and did you blow it up to wall size and cover the front window?  CInque Terre I recognize and this mountain looks familiar but can't put my finger on it.

Also any compare/contrast you can provide on the Magicos vs the Spendors would be appreciated, I'll be looking to buy my first set of big boy speakers in the next year or so and both these are on my audition list.

You might really like another sub or three.

Thanks and cheers, keep enjoying the music!

Great system and well laid out! I noticed a Gold Note DS-10 streamer and DAC in your photos. What was your experience with it? Did you fine tune the DAC settings in your case?

**Oh - I also switched to a different component stand (in first two pictures).  I loved the look on the black one, but sometimes I'm in the mood for the wood finish.

Thank you all once again for the kind words!  I've recently made some additions/updates to the system (in description).

Huge improvement with the analog front end using the C37 (Previously using the AD-50 phono module in the E-470, which by all means is a killer addition for the money).  The C37 does all the things the AD-50 did well, just better.  The absolute best SS Phono preamp I've used. **Wish I could afford the C47 (new reference from Accuphase)

Digital has been upgraded to a Gold Note DS-10.  Using that as a Roon Endpoint and DAC (previously was using a Bluesound into my Accuphase CD player's digitial inputs).  I've replaced the Accuphase CD Player with a Leak transport (it fit in the cubby perfectly, ha) running coax into the DS-10.

Only have a week with the new gear but the improvements were noticeable immediately.

Happy listening!

Please describe the sound difference between the Spendor and Magicos. Love the finish on the Spendors!

Lovely!
I am especially fond of one particular piece of equipment that you did not list! Your pooch is always part of a system.  Mine comes in and sits or lies down or gets on my lap..... boogying with a pooch is really the way to go.  Good equipment, loving pooch, and great sound.  Your system is wonderful!

@bajaed What table & tonearm are you getting?

My Volare is on a cutting board (a friend made this in his wood shop) with some Isoacoustic Orea feet. Works well for isolation + I like the way it looks!!

What is the stand you have the Volare on?

Rob,

I know how you feel.  I love my Accuphase DP-65v reference CD player.
I can hardly await to purchase my next (newer) Accuphase spinner.

Happy Listening!
