My goal was simple. Accumulate as much stereo equipment as possible before my wife and I decide to have kids. I've had too many friends warn me that when the babies arrive, so does the money that funds your system. A special thanks to my very understanding wife who puts up with me and my constant false-promises that I'm 'done' getting anything new. And to my father, who sparked by incessant passion at a very young age, and who has loaned me more pieces that I can count, much to his dismay.
I've been busy, lots of changes has taken the system to new levels.
I love the Siegfrieds. My Ascendos really sing with tubes and I got the deal of a lifetime. The dynamic shading of this amp is off the charts. Plus they throw the most believable soundstage I have ever heard to date. I'm running Genalex kt88 and Nos input tubes. Also just added JPS power cables that really lowered the noise floor and added a sense of warmth. Agear good to hear, but it's official my first baby is on its way
System edited: New phono-stage: Aesthetix Io Ellipse. Simply amazing-- will experiment with NOS tubes and Isolation feet. Very quiet phono-stage that has solved my hum problem (who would have thought).
Hello, The Ascendos are tri-wireable. I use a bi-wire cable for the midrange and bass and a normal cable to the tweeter. I found that the Ascendos sound best this way and they LOVE power. Truly magical speakers, once set-up correctly, they flat out disappear.
System edited: VTL 7.5 Mk3 preamp. It is unbelievable what this component has done to my system. I am finally able to run the MBL amps in a fully-balanced mode and what a difference it has made! Soundstage has opened up and each instrument has an aura air of space around it. I can actually feel the performance. Next up, finding a balanced phono-stage.
Thank you, I absolutely love my Joules. Re-tubing them was a pretty penny but worth every cent. What 6dj8 are you using in your VZN-160? I have been playing with a few NOS tubes lately and have been getting mixed results. The speakers are amazing, Valin did a nice write review in the Absolute Sound.
