My goal was simple. Accumulate as much stereo equipment as possible before my wife and I decide to have kids. I've had too many friends warn me that when the babies arrive, so does the money that funds your system. A special thanks to my very understanding wife who puts up with me and my constant false-promises that I'm 'done' getting anything new. And to my father, who sparked by incessant passion at a very young age, and who has loaned me more pieces that I can count, much to his dismay.
I've been busy, lots of changes has taken the system to new levels.
If wifey is the CFO like mine is, discretionary spending goes out the window when the bambinos appear. That being said, you have been proactive and cobbled together something special. Enjoy. JPS makes very good cords.
What a great plan. Wish I had such a plan in place before the kids came. Get the good stuff before the kids come, could be twenty years before one may be self focused again. Oh yes great system as well.
I love the Siegfrieds. My Ascendos really sing with tubes and I got the deal of a lifetime. The dynamic shading of this amp is off the charts. Plus they throw the most believable soundstage I have ever heard to date. I'm running Genalex kt88 and Nos input tubes. Also just added JPS power cables that really lowered the noise floor and added a sense of warmth. Agear good to hear, but it's official my first baby is on its way
Love your set up...and I don't say that about many set ups...but your description of "simply amazing" for three different components leaves much to be desired and your claim about the Pioneer DVD player lacks credibility. You need to replace it and your turntable for this to be an "All Out Assault" system.
System edited: New phono-stage: Aesthetix Io Ellipse. Simply amazing-- will experiment with NOS tubes and Isolation feet. Very quiet phono-stage that has solved my hum problem (who would have thought).
Hello, The Ascendos are tri-wireable. I use a bi-wire cable for the midrange and bass and a normal cable to the tweeter. I found that the Ascendos sound best this way and they LOVE power. Truly magical speakers, once set-up correctly, they flat out disappear.
System edited: VTL 7.5 Mk3 preamp. It is unbelievable what this component has done to my system. I am finally able to run the MBL amps in a fully-balanced mode and what a difference it has made! Soundstage has opened up and each instrument has an aura air of space around it. I can actually feel the performance. Next up, finding a balanced phono-stage.
Kr8008 sorry for the delayed response I've not been here this last month. The sound I enjoy the most is with Amperex Holland 7025 (12AX7) and 6DJ8. I use Amperex US if I can't get Holland or France. I tried Mullard but still prefer the Amperex. In a pinch I can use Jud's stock tubes and if that was the only choice could be satisfied with them, the sound is still special !
A friend of mine in Portland had just gotten a pair of the same speakers prior to my visit. I think he's finally gotten the speakers he was intended to have. He mentioned his son, whom he says is a bigger fanatic than he is, and that he has Brinkman turntables.
If you are indeed the son of this individual, whose name is George, we have become good friends, along with Michael, and they have visited me on Whidbey Island several times.
If this is the case, it points out that it is a small world. Maybe I'll have the good fortune of meeting with you, on my next visit.
Enjoy your Ascendos, they are excellent, as is the rest of your system.
Thank you, I absolutely love my Joules. Re-tubing them was a pretty penny but worth every cent. What 6dj8 are you using in your VZN-160? I have been playing with a few NOS tubes lately and have been getting mixed results. The speakers are amazing, Valin did a nice write review in the Absolute Sound.
Very nice system thanks for posting !!!! How are the Joules working out for you ? I wasn't familiar with your speakers so I found a review and they happened to be compared to the Watt Puppy 8, my current speakers. I use the Joule VZN-160 with the WP-8 which I find to be an alluring combination that I can't seem to move away from !!!!
