Description

This is my vinyl ripping studio. The speakers are in an "aktiv" configuration. There are crossover cards in the amps and the internal crossovers in the speakers have been bypassed. The sound is lush, clear and open. The preamp even sounds better after the change.

System edited: Back to basics! I have moved the wonderful sounding LK-85s to my main system. They sound even better with the B&Ws than the Tukans.

I found that the LK 140 has a pair of output devices per channel. A lot of people say that the LK 140 sounds better than the LK 85. It is just from them having more power and slam? Does the LK140 show more micro dynamics?

Do you know anything about the topography of the LK 140? Dors it have monolithic bipolar transistors like the LK 85?

You do not need a sub with Tukans (well I don't, maybe you do). These have more bass it seems than my larger B&W CDM1 NT's. Such a great little speaker

I just hooked up the second LK 85 up and I am impressed, the bass has even more presence. I am going to start looking for a Karin preamp now!

I have a Linn speaker based desktop system too. I don't have Linn electronics though. Linn monitors work great for this application. I have the Kan MK1. Its paired up with a Velodyne ULD15 sub.

Great little system!!!

No question, the LK85 is a wonderful amplifier (I own one myself) and perfect with the Tukans. I have it paired with the original LK1 preamp (bought new in '88). I also have an LK140 / Kolecktor pairing. Love it too.

I bought into the Linn For Life promise back in the early 80's.

Enjoy!!!!!!!!
