My system sounds good for what it is. New Digital has me happy as does a better tuner than I have ever owned. It seems 2009 was the year for me to upgrade my front end. The new Talk has me amazed and the MD106T has shown me what FM is about. I finally feel I have a well balanced system which I would simply leave be at this point. I'm done. Famous last words I know but I can't think where this system is week accept the room which I have learnt to properly modify. My system sounds good. Then again my system 10 years ago, completely different smaller system, sounded good.Other than selling this system and starting all over again , what would you do next?
I’ve put the MD106t tuner on a separate isolation rack beside my main stereo rack and am using 2 meter interconnects. I find the tuner is sounding better than ever. I think the tuner likes to be well isolated from the rest of the components.
I will be getting my XP-32 today. It will probably be 3 weeks for the X250.8 but I will have the XP-32 to go with my current X250.5. My X1 sounds good with the X250.5 so I’m excited to hear what the new electronics will do.
I thought a new pre to match my new amp would be nice so I’m excited to get my new Pass XP-32 preamp in a couple of weeks. It will be exciting to hear the improvement as my X250.5 and X1 combo sound pretty good now.
With no apparent weak link I can think of the sound of the system is very nice. If circumstances ever allow I would build another system for fun but my current system is well balanced and well done. I could always upgrade any of my components or cables but I am happy with my current sound. My headphones and headphone amp are nice but my Pass Hales system sounds better.
My system sounds good now all settled in. Although my transport sounds a bit better than my streamer I find myself mostly using my streamer. My headphones get most use although my Hales sound best. I got a pair of LCD-XC headphones for fun and they are different than my LCD4’s but my 4’s are my nicest followed by my Utopia phones. I am still using the Moon 430 HA which is a nice headphone amp but I still have my Auralic Taurus MkII in case I want to play with it.
I in fact do feel a sense of completion with my system and it’s virtual system name “What Now?” was titled years ago when I was beginning my journey. As for Roon it is not necessary with the Software which comes with the Auralic Aries streamer. I am experiencing music I haven’t heard in years and the wealth of new material is endless. Perhaps one day I will check out Roon but for now I’m enjoying my system in a way like never before.
I’m getting a holographic type of sound from both my Aries and my PWT. I’m getting the best sound I have ever experienced from any system in any room. I’m extremely pleased and excited. My system’s guts amp, preamp and speakers are 20 years old. It’s the cabling and source components which are new. And then again I upgraded my head gear to a nice headphone setup but my main speaker system far outperforms my headphones and headphone amp.
My Aries keeps sounding better and better. At this point, and the Aries will further improve with burn in, the Aries sounds around as good as my Perfectwave transport with Wireworld Platinum Starlight 7 HDMI cable on it to Directstream dac. I am using a Wireworld Platinum 8 XLR cable from Aries to Directstream dac and I am using an Audio Art e2plus Statement power cable on my Aries.
I got my Auralic Aries G2.1 streamer yesterday. It’s a gorgeous sounding component. Extremely highly recommended. The Bridge II was a little taste of what streaming could sound like but the Aries G2.1 is scary good!!
The LCD4 phones are nice with the Moon 430 ha amp. I still have my Auralic Taurus Mk2 headphone amp as a spare amp but the Moon 430 ha is significantly better. I will not sell the Taurus Mk2 as I rather keep it as a spare. The Focal Utopia phones are nice phones as well and compliment the LCD4’s nicely but I prefer the Audeze sound. I have nice head gear but my Hales and Pass gear are truly special. I am wearing headphones most of the time. If I were to upgrade my headphones it would probably cost me $7 or $8000 which is not worth the expense at this point. My current headphones are quite satisfying so I’ll just enjoy.
Once in a while my wife lets me listen to my speakers at a comfortable level and the sound is spectacular. My Hales blow away my LCD4 and Utopia phones with Moon 430 ha amp! My phones are nice but my Hales speakers are spectacular.
With all cables now nicely settled the sound is very nice. The Bridge II sounds nice with the upgraded Ethernet cables but I must wait a couple of more weeks for the Auralic Aries G2.1 streamer which should be even nicer than the Bridge II as it should. At this point I would say the upgraded cables were well worth the exercise and expense. I am pleased with the results. The upgraded digital cables were game changing.
In about 3 weeks I should have the Auralic Aries G2.1 streamer but the PS Audio Bridge II is pretty good itself. I find myself mostly listening to my CD’s as the sound quality is better but the Bridge II is not bad. The better Ethernet cables make a nice improvement.
After careful listening I find that although both cables I'm using are good the Wireworld Platinum Starlight 7 is the best sounding in my system. It's actually close as the Audio Art Statement Digital RCA is an excellent cable.
